RSU 38 Board of Directors meeting scheduled for Wednesday May 6, 2026 @ 6:30 P.M. in the MCMS Cafeteria VIEW AGENDA
Thank you to everyone who has shared thoughts with us about Kindergarten over the past several weeks — your engagement has mattered throughout this process. We're glad to share an update: the Administrative Team is recommending to the Board that Kindergarten remain in all four elementary schools next year. As we've finalized staffing for 2026–27, a few things came together that weren't possible back in March — some teachers volunteered to move into other openings, smaller class sizes moving up a grade freed up space, and Wayne will combine Kindergarten and 1st grade into one classroom for the year, with some Ed Tech support. The result is that no one is being laid off, the budget stays right where the Board approved it, and every town keeps its Kindergarten. We also want to be open with you: this is a one-year plan, and there are still bigger questions for us to work through together. A combined K/1 classroom isn't our first choice, class sizes across our schools are still uneven, and the realities of enrollment, school buildings, and long-term costs have not changed. Those are the conversations we'll be having together through the strategic planning process this coming year — and we'd rather start that work with our four communities standing together. Thank you for your patience, your honesty, and your care for our kids.
